Marrakech

Marrakech

Marrakech has a history more than three thousand years old. Enclosed by 12km of red ochre walls, dominated by the minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque, this is an impressive city with exquisite architecture to explore. The colourful souk displays every craft and skill practiced in Morocco and here you can spend hours testing your negotiating skills over a cup of mint tea. Many hours and mint teas later, wander over to the legendary Djemaa el-Fna Square and from the vantage point of one of the cafes, sit back and watch the performers and acrobats as they arrive in the square. La Palmeraie area of the city is a vast palm grove covering many acres and housing villas, hotels, golf courses and other sporting activities. This desert oasis sits at the foot of the Atlas mountains making it the perfect location from which to explore. Whether you stay for a few days or a few weeks, the Imperial city of Marrakech cannot fail to impress.

The best way to get a real taste of this amazing city is to stay in a Riad. Riads are small family run, traditional residences situated within the walled Medina and are the total Moroccan experience. The peace and tranquillity within belies the hustle and bustle of the Medina outside. Riads will usually contain steps or narrow stairways and access to the property via the medina pathways maybe uneven and too narrow for vehicles, so will involve a certain amount of walking and will not suit those with walking difficulties. Riads generally appeal to couples, single travellers and families with older children.
